Oriole
Anthony booked us a table for three at Oriole, and it turned into one of the more unique dining experiences we’ve had in Chicago. This isn’t just dinner—it’s a full progression. Think of it as a high-end tasting menu adventure with a few scene changes along the way
The Format
You start at the bar with a drink and the first bite. From there, you’re led to a stand-up table in the kitchen for the next round of tastes, and then finally seated at your table for the main sequence. It’s a flow that feels thoughtful without being too precious—like they’re guiding you through a story rather than just feeding you.
The Food
It’s a two-Michelin-star experience, and it shows. The technique, the plating, the pacing—it’s all there. While nothing completely blew us away in that “I’ll dream about this dish for weeks” way, the overall quality was top-tier. Refined, deliberate, and creative without going off the rails.
If you’re looking for a true tasting menu experience, this is it. You’re not picking anything, you’re just leaning in and letting the kitchen take you where they want to go.
The Verdict
Oriole is worth a shot if you’re in the mood for something special. It’s not casual, not spontaneous—it’s a night you plan for. But the experience is memorable, the food is strong, and it feels like a proper Chicago fine dining moment.
