Shanghai Terrace
Shanghai Terrace is one of those spots that instantly transports you. Is it 100% authentic? I’m not sure the purists in China would sign off—but for me, some of the dishes truly feel like Asia, and that’s enough to make it a favorite. I have spent many weeks in China and this one works for me as close as I can get to dishes there remember Chinese food in China is not like it is here
The setting is elegant without being stuffy, especially when you’re dining on the terrace in warmer months. Inside or out, it’s consistently one of the more refined Chinese dining experiences in the city.
The Move
Get the Peking Duck. It’s the signature dish for a reason—crispy skin, carved tableside, beautifully plated with all the fixings. It’s a bit of a show, but one that’s actually worth it.
And here’s the best part: they can make most dishes gluten-free, including the duck. Just let them know when you order, and they’ll walk you through the options. For anyone gluten-sensitive or celiac, this place is surprisingly accommodating for a cuisine that usually leans heavy on soy sauce.
The Verdict
Shanghai Terrace hits the mark when you’re craving upscale Chinese in a classic, throwback setting. Great service, well-executed dishes, and that rare combo of fine dining with soul.
Check Beli (@graffiajr) for the full notes—but trust me: go for the duck, ask for it gluten-free, and thank me later.
